NA Fall Invitational: Who will reach Rotterdam?

The North American Fall Split finishes up this weekend, as 16 teams duke it out for spots at the Fall Major in Rotterdam. All 16 teams are still alive, while Gen.G Mobil1 Racing have already secured their place by reaching back-to-back Grand Finals. Version1 and FaZe Clan picked up wins in the first two Regionals, a spot from which 100% of North American teams last season reached the Fall Major.

Major Implications

Both Version1 and FaZe Clan can clinch their spots in Rotterdam by finishing at least 9th-11th, which means picking up two wins in the Swiss Stage. If they can do that, they’ll be guaranteed to reach the Major regardless of any other results. Seven other teams also control their own destinies, including Spacestation Gaming.

The Spacestation trio, headed by superstar Daniel “Daniel” Piecenski, have reached the semifinals in each of the first two events this season. Matching that result again would see them qualify for Rotterdam, which would keep up the team’s record of reaching every LAN event with Daniel on the roster. Six more teams can all clinch if they win the Regional: G2 Esports, NRG, FURIA, OpTic Gaming, Complexity Gaming, and Shopify Rebellion. They can also all clinch with worse results if other matchups go their way. Every other team in the Regional would likely need an event win and some help to guarantee qualification for the Fall Major.

Round One Highlight – OpTic Gaming vs Complexity Gaming

These two rosters meet for the third time this season, as they’ve split their first two matchups this season. OpTic Gaming knocked Complexity out of the Fall Open via reverse sweep in Swiss Round 5, while Complexity Gaming opened the Fall Cup by beating OpTic Gaming 3-2. In this matchup of Fall Major hopefuls, the winner will get an early leg up, and have serious momentum on their way towards a potential Rotterdam berth.
